Geez, it's been absolutely ages since I posted anything to this blog

So just to keep it updated, I was rather chuffed with a point yesterday against the Baggies, even if we did hold on by our fingernails.

Despite picking up few points lately, I curiously remain quite confident in our position and still feel that we can push on from here...hopefully with some of our injured players back and with a few new faces in January.

I still think that Coleman is the right man for the job, and maybe this is the time to be patient and stick with him, through thick and thin.

So here we are 3 weeks from the kickoff of the new season and we've signed nobody!!!

Not a soul! No-one on loan, no-one signed up on a permanent basis, in fact the ONLY new players to the squad are those that have been given squad numbers from the youth team!!!

The club state that they still have targets in the pipeline, or at least this did a few weeks ago. But if those targets were the one's that have been rumoured in the press then even those are either on the verge of going somewhere else or the move has been rubbished by their clubs.

So where does that leave us? Well....I hope for our sake that Coleman HAS got something up his sleeve. If not, that means that the club, who didn't strengthen in the previous transfer window, have failed to strengthen the side AGAIN!!! If you then take into account the sale of Dann, it leaves us with a weaker squad than we finished with, and quite frankly, that just isn't good enough!

Coleman, Ranson & SISU...cut the crap, tell us what the hell is going on and get it sorted....NOW!!!

Another Player That Failed To Live Up To His Ego

A press release from the club today announced that Kevin Thornton has
left the club by mutual consent (aka sacked!).

Thornton wad the last in a long line of players who came through the
youth system and showed real potential. Gifted dribbler who wasn't
scared to take players on just wasn't consistent enough. Regarded as a
bit of a super-sub he looked good, but almost every time he was given
a start, he'd fail to show up...so frustrating!

I'm sure he'll get signed up by a lower league club, but I have the
sad feeling that this won't be the wake up call it should be and he'll
disappear into the football wilderness.

I hope not but the words 'leopard' and 'spots' spring to mind!!!

As you are probably all aware, the draw for the Carling Cup first round took place at 9:30 this morning. Cov have been drawn at home against Hartlepool, so that a trip to the seaside gone begging. The initial temptation is to start ranting about 'potential banana-skins' and 'giant killing', but to be honest I think we'll batter them. Surely we cant scrape through like we did against Torquay last year in the FA Cup???

Other big news this week was the departure of Scott Dann up the A45, but i'm not overly fussed, from what i've heard before, during and after, he clearly wanted to go on to big and better things and I cant really blame him, hopefully he'll do better that McSheffrey, I think he's a possible future England defender. The only concern I have is that Cookie isn't expected to sell everyone who we can get a 'decent' price for.

Anyways, onwards and upwards for a top half (or playoff finish), sadly we have to wait virtually another 2 months for the season to kick off....now that's depressing!!!

You know, I'm not entirely sure if the season has ended?

There are definitely no more entries in the fixture list under Coventry City on the BBC website that I usually refer to through my phone. But as the season withered out so pathetically, my brain just hasn't bothered to recognise it's over.

I suppose I shouldn't be bothered and just be thankful that I have a football team to support still, after the shenanigans of last seasons take-over and last day survival. But maybe that's the reason…..that so much happened last season (off the field) that I was expecting more, that it's been boring by comparison? But the fact of the matter is that City are back where they have been for so long, languishing towards the bottom of the division.

To be honest I did expect more from Cov this season, on paper we had a number of decent players and a bit of money to spend during last years close season. We have brought some gems in, such as Aron and Keiran, but others have been average. I think whats needed is quite a major overhaul, we need to get rid of those that have been here a while and maybe 'survived' due to us being so poor (Doyle maybe?). However, now is the time to offload these players and bring in fresh blood with more fight. We need a selection of experienced players to play alongside our young starlets, but certainly not a one-season journey man, it needs to be more long term than that. Dennis Wise was amazing when he came here, but for one season, is it really worth it.

I'm interested to see who Cookie brings in, and I'm confident in his ability to build a side. I just hope that the Coventry faithfully, following year upon year of dross, are patient enough to stand by him. I think we have some good times ahead, but it's not going to happen overnight. Discarding the games following the Blades and Chelski, we weren't too bad, we were placed well and then it all fell apart.

If we can bring in goal scoring talent and a decent central midfielder to play alongside Aron, I think we have the makings of a decent side, but we also need to skim players off too, but only on the condition that we can bring in better.

So, here we are on the eve of the last home game of the season. The Easter period was quite frankly shocking and we have feck all to play for. But never mind, because tomorrow we have Watford and you can guess whats coming next eh???

Let's not get excited, Watford are a side that aren't mathematically safe, so Cov being the generous team that we are, will roll over and take a kicking for them. But, of course we won't be prepared to settle for giving Watford a draw and getting only the one point they need, nah, let's let them win by at least 4, I mean who knows, we might even be able to get them to overtake us.

Then next up we have Ipswich away, and to absolutely guarantee we don't win again before the end of the season, it will be the first game that Roy Keane will be in charge of, so all their fans will be up for it and we'll get stonked.

So, roll on next season and another long drawn-out campaign that ends with nothing but doom and gloom!

Easter Egg-Shaped

Thursday, April 16, 2009

A single point from Easter period against two lowly sides is more than disapponting, it's crap!

I believe we are starting to build but times like this certainly stop those far flung dreams of promotion getting out of control.

We have to be patient, we can't jump from the verge of oblivion to Premiership candidates in less than 12 months. I believe in Coleman and Ranson, they make sense, showing that throwing money at it is no answer, just look at Man City!!!

Top half would be nice, but not essential.
